Technical Setup for Your Learning Journey
Getting your system ready doesn't have to be complicated. We've put together what you actually need—not a wishlist of the latest gear.
Look, we're not going to pretend you need a brand-new computer to manage your finances better. Most folks already have what they need sitting on their desk. The programs for our autumn 2025 sessions work on pretty standard equipment—nothing fancy required.
What matters more than having cutting-edge hardware is having a stable connection and enough screen space to work comfortably. You'll be looking at spreadsheets, running some basic software, and joining video sessions. That's really it.
What Your Computer Needs
Processor & Memory
Any dual-core processor from the last five years should handle things fine. And 4GB of RAM? That's your baseline.
- Intel Core i3 or equivalent AMD processor
- 4GB RAM minimum (8GB makes life easier)
- Works on Windows 10, macOS 10.14, or newer
- Even older machines often work just fine
Storage & Display
You need space for the software and your course materials. And honestly, bigger screens help when you're working with numbers.
- 20GB of free hard drive space
- Screen resolution at least 1280x720
- Larger displays make spreadsheets more manageable
- Dual monitors are nice but not essential
Internet Connection
Streaming video sessions needs decent bandwidth. If you can watch Netflix without constant buffering, you're probably sorted.
- Minimum 5 Mbps download speed
- 10 Mbps recommended for smoother experience
- Wired connection beats Wi-Fi for stability
- Most Australian home internet handles this

Software & Compatibility Notes
We use standard financial management tools that work across different platforms. Most of the software you'll need is either free or has trial versions available. Before the program starts in September 2025, we'll send you a complete installation guide.
Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets will be your main tools—pick whichever you're comfortable with. For video sessions, we use Zoom, which runs on basically everything. You might want a headset for clearer audio during group discussions, but your laptop's built-in mic works too.
If you're worried whether your current setup is adequate, just send us an email. We can usually sort out any compatibility questions within a day or two.
